ABOUT CONOR

Against a backdrop of record temperatures hitting the limits of human heat tolerance across the world; my little girl has just turned 2 and with our second baby is on the way this summer. I have imagined the kind of world they will grow up in. The criticality of leaving an earth that is habitable for my daughters’ generation to grow up in is what drives me to make an impact on Green issues. Our actions today will dictate the degree of warming, there is still time but we need meaningful action from government. Anois an t-Am.

Making any sort of difference starts at home. I have lived in Blackrock all my life, it's where we have chosen to raise our family and I could not be more proud of the area. I grew up in Stillorgan Park, attending Carysfort National School and UCD Smurfit. I am an active Blackrock Tidy Towns member and love swimming at Seapoint.

Through my research as I worked towards my PhD, I developed an insight into the complexity of Dublin's infrastructure systems, their vulnerabilities and how they interrelate. Building on this knowledge, and working with Dún Laoghaire Rathdown CoCo, I established ‘Smart Dún Laoghaire’. This research programme puts forward solutions for our community on climate resilience and active travel solutions. I grew the team to 5 full time staff and have brought millions of euro of research projects to Dublin. Underpinning this programme was an understanding of local needs and developing solutions to the relevant local community challenges.

I currently lecture in Trinity College Dublin, using multidisciplinary research with a basis in systems management. This research aims to develop new nature based approaches for managing our towns so we have a 'just-transition' to a sustainable Ireland.

If elected, I will provide a strong Green voice for Blackrock and develop a sustainable resilient community. If you have any suggestions on how you would like to see the Blackrock area improved, or any questions for me, I would love to hear from you. You can reach me on 085 161 0357 or by email at conor.dowling@greenparty.ie. I look forward to speaking with you soon.

I would be very grateful for your support and your vote.
